Amalfi and its coast are among the most precious pearls of the Italian territory. Starting from Sorrento we climb towards Sant'Agata dei due Golfi, which offers an exceptional scenario: the view of the two gulfs.
On one side there is the Gulf of Naples with Vesuvius, the basin in which the metropolis of Naples lies, the islands of Ischia and Procida. On the other hand, the steep and beautiful Amalfi Coast towards the Gulf of Salerno, with the villages perched on the rock, the Mediterranean scrub, off the coast the Isola dei Galli in full view, the blue sea.
Going down towards the Gulf of Salerno you will find the beautiful villages of the Coast, first of all Positano, with its white houses that slope down to the sea, and the many trendiest beachwear boutiques. High-level clubs, elegant cafes, quality restaurants characterize this location that hosts quality tourism that has fascinated VIPs and ordinary people for decades.
Continue towards Praiano, another jewel of houses and villas that slope down to the sea in a fabulous setting, and arrive in Amalfi, the most precious of the pearls of the Coast that takes its name.
Amalfi was a Maritime Republic in the Middle Ages, whose ships sailed the entire Mediterranean to exchange goods. This maritime culture led to an extraordinary invention: the compass, and the town's main square is dedicated to its inventor Flavio Gioia. The Piazza del Duomo is dominated by the main church that dominates the top of a staircase with its spectacular black and white façade. A beautiful cloister of medieval origin is located at the top of the staircase, called del Paradiso, to testify to the sense of peace and beauty that it transmits. Going up the main street of the village that climbs towards the mountains, among craft shops, typical pastry shops, arcades and stairways, in the white color that characterizes the entire village, is beautiful and fun.
From Amalfi you climb a road with breathtaking views, up to Ravello, a town overlooking the coast. Here, where Jaqueline Kennedy spent unforgettable holidays, you can visit the Medieval Cathedral, rich in valuable works of art, and Villa Rufolo, which has a view overlooking the coast that has no equal in the world. A garden full of flowers, among the remains of towers and medieval walls, with an extraordinary view of the sea.
